Originating in Nashville in the late 1960s, Jimmy Buffett began his career as a country artist. By 1970, Buffett released his first album “Down to Earth”, which was largely promoted by performing for tourists visiting New Orleans. Buffett then relocated to Key West, Florida and adopted the vacation persona he has made so famous. There, he adopted the gulf and western genre, which combined elements of pop and country to create a tropical setting in his lyricism.
Buffett is perhaps best known for his song “Margaritaville”, which was featured on his 1977 release “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes”. The song is listed as #234 on the RIAA’s list of Songs of the Century, regarding popular music in the 1900s. Fans that attend Buffett’s shows are well known as “Parrotheads’, which further alludes to the vacation atmosphere Buffett has become synonymous with.
Since his debut album in 1970, Buffett has released 28 more records, with his latest being 2013’s “Songs from St. Somewhere”. In the 1980’s, he generated much of his revenue through concert shows rather than album sales and Jimmy Buffett tickets still garner big demand when the singer tours. Buffett is known for his extensive touring schedule and has announced a new tour each year since 1976. His 2015 tour will be called the ‘Workin’ n’ Playin’ Tour’ and will run over five months from April to August.
Buffett is also a co-owner of the Margaritaville Café and helped develop the popular Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant chain. Aside from his work in music and dining, he has also written three best-selling novels. His last work, “Swine Not?”, was released in 2013.
Buffett’s commitment to touring has allowed Jimmy Buffett tickets to remain in high demand for nearly five decades. The singer will again tour in 2015 and bring with him his extensive list of hits and islandic music across North America.
