KISS Live Performance Videos

KISS Biography

One of America’s most colourful rock bands, KISS gained a reputation as a must-see live act thanks to their flamboyant costumes and face paint, elaborate stage stunts and arena-friendly pop metal sound. Formed from the ashes of Wicked Lester in 1972, frontman Gene Simmons, guitarist Ace Frehley, bassist Paul Stanley and drummer Peter Criss performed for an audience of just three fans with KISS tickets during their first show. But after signing to Casablanca Records and releasing their 1974 self-titled debut album, they began to build a much bigger following. Recorded in front of fans with KISS tickets for their Dressed to Kill tour, 1975 double live album Alive! propelled the band into the rock elite, while 1976 follow-up Destroyer spawned their first US Top 10 hit, “Beth.” The group continued to sell KISS tickets in their droves throughout the decade with the release of Rock & Roll Over, Love Gun and Dynasty, while in 1978, all four members released a solo record on the same day. Following Criss’ departure, those with KISS tickets for their 1980 show at New York’s Palladium Theatre got to see replacement Eric Carr make his live debut. After the commercial disappointment of 1982’s Creatures of the Night, the group decided to abandon their trademark theatrical image and reveal their true identities for 1983’s Lick It Up. The tactic paid off and sales of KISS tickets remained strong for the rest of the 80s thanks to the likes of Animalize, Asylum and Crazy Nights. In 1989, Hot In The Shade spawned their second US Top 10 hit, “Forever,” but tragedy struck two years later when Carr died of a brain haemorrhage. 1992’s Revenge was followed by a MTV Unplugged session which laid the foundations for a 1996 reunion tour, featuring the original line-up in full make-up, which grossed over $43 million in sales of KISS tickets. The revival gathered further steam with 1997’s Carnival of Souls, 1998’s Psycho Circus and the 1999 KISS-themed comedy Detroit Rock City, and although the band released KISS tickets for a ‘farewell’ tour in 2000, they remained just as active in the 21st Century. In 2003, they performed with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in front of thousands of fans at the Telstra Dome. Later that year, they toured with Aerosmith before embarking on similar joint treks with Motley Crue and Def Leppard, and adding to their back catalogue with 2009’s Sonic Boom and 2012’s Monster. Following their 2014 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, they released KISS tickets for a residency at Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel.
