Ricardo Arjona Biography
One of the most celebrated Latin American artists of his generation, Ricardo Arjona has sold over 20
million albums worldwide thanks to his socially-conscious blend of rock, pop and Cuban music. Born
in Jocotenango, Guatemala in 1964, Arjona first started performing in talent contests at the age of
twelve and also made waves as a talented basketball player before studying for a degree at the
School of Communication Sciences. In 1985, he signed to Polygram, dropped his debut album,
Dejame Decir Que Te Amo, and released Ricardo Arjona tickets for his first ever tour. But
disillusioned with both the Latin lothario direction he was being pushed in and the record’s
disappointing commercial response, he abandoned his pop career and instead went onto teach at a
primary school for several years. Arjona then did a U-turn when he represented his country at the
OTI Festival and in 1988, he released his second album, Jesus, Verbo No Sustantivo, and Ricardo
Arjona tickets for an accompanying tour. After signing a deal with Sony in 1990, the demand for
Ricardo Arjona tickets increased thanks to the likes of 1993’s multi-platinum Animal Nocturno and
1994’s Historias, as well as his soundtrack work on Mexican telenovela Alcanzar Una Estrella. In
1996, he began to establish a reputation as a protest singer with Si El Norte Fuera El Sur, and after
1998’s Sin Danos a Terceros, he performed in front of 100,000 people with Ricardo Arjona tickets for
a show at the Hippodrome of Guatemala City which was recorded for 1999’s live album, Vivo.
Inspired by Caribbean culture, 2000’s Galeria Caribe was supported by the release of Ricardo Arjona
tickets for a run of shows across South and Central America. After adding to his catalogue with
2002’s Santo Pecado and 2005’s Adentro, he sold over two million Ricardo Arjona tickets for his
2007 world tour, and teamed up with the likes of Eros Ramazzotti, Marc Anthony and Sandro for a
collection of reinterpretations of his previous hits, Quien Dijo Ayer. In 2008, he switched to Warner
Music Latina and released his 11th studio effort, 5to Piso, which not only gave him a debut entry on
the US Top 100, but also picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Album. Ricardo Arjona
tickets then went on sale for 123 shows for the hugely successful Quinto Piso tour, while in 2011, he
went acoustic for the stripped-back Poquita Ropa. 2011’s Independiente was then followed by the
Metamorfosis World Tour, which grossed over $13 million in sales of Ricardo Arjona tickets, and in
2014, he achieved his highest US chart peak with Viaje.
