One of the most celebrated Latin American artists of his generation, Ricardo Arjona has sold over 20
million albums worldwide thanks to his socially-conscious blend of rock, pop and Cuban music. Born
in Jocotenango, Guatemala in 1964, Arjona first started performing in talent contests at the age of
twelve and also made waves as a talented basketball player before studying for a degree at the
School of Communication Sciences. In 1985, he signed to Polygram, dropped his debut album,
Dejame Decir Que Te Amo, and released Ricardo Arjona tickets for his first ever tour. But
disillusioned with both the Latin lothario direction he was being pushed in and the record’s
disappointing commercial response, he abandoned his pop career and instead went onto teach at a
