Sleater-Kinney Biography

Inspired by the likes of Bikini Kill, Sonic Youth and Throwing Muses, Sleater-Kinney initially began life as a side-project before becoming a major force on the 90s alt-rock scene thanks to a provocative mix of powerful vocals and politically-charged themes. Named after the road on which their early rehearsal space was located, Sleater-Kinney formed at the tail end of the riot grrrl era in 1994, two years after Heavens To Betsy’s Corin Tucker and Excuse 17’s Carrie Brownstein first met. After both of their respective bands broke up, the duo started to work together more often and eventually became a full-time concern. Following the addition of drummer Lora McFarlane, the group travelled to Australia where they performed to fans with Sleater-Kinney tickets and recorded their self-titled debut, which hit the shelves in 1995. Addressing themes of gender inequality, materialism and rock music’s male hierarchy, 1996’s Call The Doctor increased the demand for Sleater-Kinney tickets, and after Janet Weiss replaced McFarlane in 1997, the band added to their catalogue with Dig Me Out. The group continued to build up a loyal cult following with the release of 1999’s The Hot Rock and Sleater-Kinney tickets for its accompanying tour, while in 2000, the band teamed up with Brisbane indie-band The Go-Betweens to record The Friends of Rachel Worth. In the same year, the trio released their own studio effort, All Hands on the Bad One, and Sleater-Kinney tickets for a run of North American shows. The band then promoted 2002’s One Beat with a support slot on Pearl Jam’s arena tour, before Sleater-Kinney tickets went on sale for the band’s own headlining trek. In 2005, the three-piece scored their first major entry on the Billboard 200 with the heavily distorted The Woods. But shortly after playing to fans with Sleater-Kinney tickets at Portland’s Crystal Ballroom in 2006, the group announced they were embarking on a self-imposed hiatus. Fans wanting to get their hands on Sleater-Kinney tickets for a reunion tour got their hopes up in 2013 when the group joined Pearl Jam, Scott McCaughey and Peter Buck at a Portland show for a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World.” Sleater-Kinney tickets were then snapped up in their droves for a 2015 trek across North America and Europe in support of their ninth LP, No Cities To Love.
