WWE Summer Slam Biograhy

WWE’s Summer Slam will be having its 28th event this year at the Brooklyn’s Barclay’s Center, the first Summer Slam event outside of the Staples Center in Los Angeles since 2008. The first Summer Slam was held in August of 1988 at New York’s Madison Square Garden and was a Pay Per View Event. Summer Slam is now considered one of the big four original pay per view events for the promotion of the WWE along with WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, and Survivor Series. Although, the Royal Rumble generally attracts more viewers, Summer Slam has been dubbed as the second biggest WWE event of the year behind WrestleMania. The development of Summer Slam first began in the 1980’s when Vince McMahon in an effort to eliminate his competition created the WreslteMania Franchise which became very successful and more pay per view franchises began to follow such as Survivor Series and the Royal Rumble. Following the success of those franchises and nearly monopolizing the pay per view market at the time for professional wrestling, McMahon came up with another idea to have a big event in the summer now known as Summer Slam and over the years has produced memorable pay per views with some big time main events featuring their biggest starts such as the Undertaker, Brett Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Rock, Brock Lesnar, and many others. By 2009, Summer Slam remained exclusive to the Staples Center in Los Angeles but now the event returns to the NY Area for the seventh time and the first ever event at Brooklyn’s Barclay Center this year on August 23, 2015.
