About The MLB All-Star Game

The annual Major League Baseball All Star Game also known Midsummer Classic signifies the midpoint of the MLB season as the best players of both the American League and National League compete against each other and in recent years the game has decided which league will have home field advantage in the World Series. The game was first held in 1933 at Comiskey Park in Chicago, Illinois and at first it was intended to be just a one-time event, but because of the great success it received it resulted in an annual game. For every All Star Game, the MLB selection committee choose the venue and the venue choice can be based on the opening of a new ballpark, a significant year, and to commemorate a particular historical occasion. For years the All Star Game followed a tradition where the venues was alternation between the two leagues each year, but the tradition has been broken twice with the most recent in 2007 when the San Francisco Giants hosted the game to help pave the way for the Yankees to host the 2008 All Star Game for the Old Yankee Stadium’s final season that year. Overall, there are two Major League Baseball Franchises have not gotten the chance to host the All Star Game and 18 teams since 1964 have hosted the game twice. The 2014 All Star Game was held at Target Field the home of the Minnesota Twins and this year’s All Star Game will be hosted at the Great American Ball Park the home stadium of the Cincinnati Reds.
