The New York Mets are one of the most well known and beloved teams in the history of baseball. The team was founded and introduced to the National League in 1961. Formerly known as The New York Metropolitan Baseball Club Inc., their name was shortened to the Mets by former club owner Joan Payson due to it's fan appeal and historical background, as well as its relevance to the metropolitan area. Mets tickets went on sale in 1962 when the team played the first official game in franchise history against the Cardinals in St. Louis. From then on, they've gone on to win two World Series, four pennants, and five National League East titles. Mets tickets sales have matched these amazing accomplishments over the years. The enduring legacy the Mets have created can't be found in scoreboards, or in their number of wins or losses. It can't be measured in the number of Mets tickets that have been sold, or how many home runs have been hit. Their lasting legacy comes from their endurance in the face of adversity, their unstoppable will to succeed, and their history of outstanding players. Players like: Tom Seaver, who helped the Mets win the 1969 World Series Championship; Darryl Strawberry, who still holds the Mets' career record for Home Runs, RBI, and hits; Mike Piazza, the Mets favorite and the catcher with the most home runs all-time. These players, and many more like them are the legacy that the Mets create. Their phenomenal players are the reason so many Mets tickets are sold every year.

Before the Mets' first official home stadium was completed, they played at the Polo Grounds from 1962-1963. In 1964, the team moved to their own stadium. William A. Shea Municipal Stadium, or simply called Shea Stadium for short, opened in April of 1964. Located in the borough of Queens, Shea Stadium saw the sale of many Mets tickets before it closed after the team's final game there in September of 2008. In 2009 the Mets moved into their current stadium, Citi Field. The team's new stadium is located in Flushing Meadows, adjacent to where Shea Stadium used to stand. Mets tickets were sold there for the first time in April of 2009. Citi Field will also be host to the 2013 Major League Baseball All-Star Game; this will be the second time the Mets have hosted the game since the opening of Shea Stadium in 1964. The Mets held the New York baseball attendance record for 29 years. The team broke the 1948 attendance record held by the New York Yankees in 1970. That year, close to 2.7 million Mets tickets were sold. They continued to surpass this achievment, breaking their own record five times up until 1999. Fans buy Mets tickets because they love watching a team that gets so much joy from playing the game. Their loyalty never ends; win or lose they're there to cheer on their team.
