Boston College Eagles News
10-20-14: The Boston College Eagles hosted the #24 ranked Clemson Tigers at home in Alumni Stadium in a ACC matchup this week. Boston College was a very respectable 4-2 on the season with a 1-1 ACC record while Clemson came into the game with an identical 4-2 record with a 3-1 conference record on the season. This game was either feast or famine as neither team managed to score in either of the first or third quarters in this contest. Clemson quickly jumped out in front of Boston College in the second quarter with a touchdown but the Eagles tied the game quickly just minutes later. Clemson marched down the field and kicked a field goal to lead 10-7 at halftime. Heading into the fourth quarter with that same score Boston College’s defense had to come up big and did as the offense put another ball into the end zone to take a 13-10 lead after a missed PAT. Clemson immediately took the ball after the touchdown and drove 82 yards on six plays as the Tigers put the ball into the end zone for the final time of the game as they went on to win the game by the score of 17-13. Clemson improves their record to 5-2 on the season and 4-1 in the ACC while Boston College drops their record to 4-3 and 1-2 in the conference on the season. Boston College came into the game with a 3-2 record and 0-1 ACC record and faced off with a 4-2 Wolfpack team with a 0-2 conference record in a game that was televised on ESPN3. Boston College thought they were in for a tough game after one quarter as these two teams traded touchdown for touchdown as the game ended with a 14-14 score after the first quarter. The Boston College defense allowed just 217 yards of total offense while forcing three turnovers in the game. The Eagles also held the Wolfpack to just 5-12 on third down conversions in the contest as they loaded up the box and completely stuffed the NC State rushing attack. 10-6-14: The Boston College Eagles have the week off to prepare and travel to play the NC State Wolfpack on Saturday, October 11 on the road in Carter-Finley Stadium. Both teams have played a single game in the ACC this season, both teams lost their only conference game to date, so one team will leave with a .500 record in the conference while another team will likely be buried in the standings. Boston College currently has a 3-2 record and will put their winning season up against the Wolfpack’s 4-1 record in 2014. NC State will play the Clemson Tigers of the ACC this week while Boston College is off so these stats are subject to change before next week’s game. Boston College has controlled their games this season by putting out the 7th best rushing attack in the nation averaging 316.8 yards per game. The problem for the Eagles this season is the team has been a little too one dimensional as the team ranks 121st in the nation in passing as they average just 133.2 yards per game in the air. The Eagles and their quarterback Tyler Murphy will have to switch things up next week if the team wants to take down a tough NC State team. If NC State can stop Murphy, who also leads the team in rushing with 579 yards on 71 carriers, it may be a long day for the Boston College offense. The defense of the Eagles is allowing 20.4 points per game which is 36th best in the nation and has kept the team in every game this season. Be sure to grab some Boston College tickets for the next Eagles game next Saturday as they take on the NC State Wolfpack on the road in Carter-Finley Stadium. The game will be played at 3:30 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN3.
10-1-14: The Boston College Eagles looked to extend their winning streak to three games in a row this week when they hosted the Colorado State Rams at home in Alumni Stadium. Boston College took an overall 3-1 record into this week against Colorado State’s 2-1 record in a non-conference game for both teams. Boston College jumped all over Colorado State early scoring the first three touchdowns of game and taking a 14-7 lead into the half. Colorado State came out of the gates in the second half and scored to tie the game before Boston College took back the lead late in the third setting up a dynamic fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was dominated by the Colorado State Rams defense and by quarterback Garrett Grayson and the Rams ended up winning the game by the score of 24-21 to improve their record to 3-1. Boston College dropped their second game of the season and saw their overall record fall to 3-2. Boston College did everything you need to do to win a football game and still couldn’t pull out the win. The Eagles only had one turnover, an interception, and five penalties for a miniscule 35 yards on the day. The defense also picked off Colorado State’s QB Garrett Grayson twice on the day and held the Rams running game in check allowing just 162 yards but in the end it wasn’t enough for the Eagles on this day. Get your Boston College tickets for the next Eagles game as the team takes an extra week to prepare and travel to NC State to take on the Wolfpack in Carter-Finley Stadium. The game will be played on October 11.
9-22-14: The Boston College Eagles hosted the Maine Black Bears this week at home in Alumni Stadium. Boston College was 2-1 on the season coming into the game with their only loss coming in an ACC game while Maine came into the contest 1-1 and looking to go above the .500 mark. Boston College absolutely dominated this game on both ends of the football. 9-16-14: The Boston College Eagles
took on the undefeated and 9th ranked USC Trojans this week at home in Alumni Stadium. This was a prime time game that was played at 8:00 pm ET on ESPN so all eyes were on the Eagles and the Trojans tonight and one team came to play. Boston College responded and upset the 9th best team in the nation with a 37-31 final score. Boston College was terrible on third down’s in the game with a 2-11 efficiency but the Eagles did manage to put up 506 yards of total offense including 452 on the ground. Boston College controlled the ball and controlled the clock for much of the game and the defense did just enough to win the game over a touch Pac 12 school. USC could not get the running game going as they only gained 20 yards on 29 attempts and the Trojans offense became too predictable and one dimensional. This made it easier for the Eagles defense to predict what was coming and made it easier to defend in the secondary. Be sure to grab your Boston College tickets for next week’s game as they host the Maine Black Bears back at home at Alumni Stadium.
