About Illinois Tickets on TiqIQ

The Illinois Fighting Illini are a member of the Big Ten Conference with 21 varsity teams. Illinois ranks 14th all-time with 1,729 wins in NCAA Division-1 basketball. Illinois has 30 NCAA tournament appearances with 11 Sweet Sixteen appearances, nine Elite Eight appearances and five Final Fours. The Illini made an NCAA title game appearance in 2005, losing to the North Carolina Tar Heels. The 2004-2005 Illini went 37-2, tying the NCAA record for most wins in a season with their two losses coming at the hands of Ohio State by 1-point in the regular season and their loss in the national championship game. Each of the five starters of the 2004-05 Illinois team eventually went on to play in the NBA: Deron Williams, Luther Head, Dee Brown, James Augustine and Roger Powell, Jr. The coach of the 2004-05 Illinois team, Bruce Weber, held the position from 2004-2012 and took over for Bill Self after Self left for Kansas. Self was able to bring Illinois basketball back to where Illini basketball used to be back in the 1950’s, becoming the first Big Ten coach to win conference championships in his first two seasons. Self’s recruits helped Bruce Weber keep the winning ways going in the early years of Weber’s tenure as Weber would also go on to win Big Ten championships in his first two seasons (2004 and 2005). Illinois has produced nine consensus All-American players and four Naismith Basketball Hall of Famers. The current head coach, John Groce, took over the program in 2012 and has produced a 62-42 record in three seasons, going to the NCAA tournament in his first season and going to the NIT in his next two seasons. As much success as the basketball program has had, the football team is even better. The Illinois football program has five claimed national championships and has a 592-559-51 overall record with an 8-10 bowl record. Additionally, the Illini have 15 conference titles, 24 consensus All-Americans, 15 College Football Hall of Famers and six Pro Football Hall of Famers. Illinois’ latest national championship game in 1951 under head coach Ray Eliot, going 9-0-1 on the season and winning the Rose Bowl. Current head coach Tim Beckham has produced a 12-25 record in his three seasons at the helm. Beckham went to his first bowl game with Illinois in the 2014 season, losing in the Heart of Dallas Bowl after a 6-6 regular season.
