Tennessee Volunteers News

12-1-14: The Vols became bowl eligible Saturday after beating Vanderbilt 24-17. Joshua Dobbs ran fortwo touchdowns and 91 yards. They win snaps a two game skid against their in-state rival that had been their longest since 1925-26. Tennessee's win gives the SEC 12 bowl eligible teams. They now await their opponent for their bowl game.

11-24-14: The Vols endured a heartbreaking 29-21 loss to Missouri Saturday. Joshua Dobbs was 24 of 37 for 195 yards with a touchdown and interception. The Volunteer defense gave up 410 yards total to Missouri. Tennessee must win next week at Vanderbilt to become bowl-eligible for the first time since 2010.

11-10-14: The Vols had a bye this week after their stunning 45-42 overtime victory over South Carolina last Saturday. With Joshua Dobbs now under center, look for the Vols to be more explosive and dynamic on offense. Surprisingly, Tennessee is ranked 25th nationally in sacks, and fifth nationally in tackles for loss. They play host to Kentucky this week.

11-3-14: Tennessee claimed its first SEC win 45-42 over South Carolina Saturday. The Vols trailed 42-28 with 4:52 remaining before Joshua Dobbs threw a 9-yard pass to Jason Croom with 11 seconds left to tie the game at 42. Aaron Medley hit a 32-yard field goal in overtime to win it. Dobbs, making his first start this season, ran for 166 yards and three touchdowns. He was 23 of 40 for 301 yards. Dobbs set the school record for single-game rushing by a quarterback. The Vols have a bye this week.

10-27-14: The Vols were down 27-0 just 18 minutes into their 34-20 loss to Alabama. Quarterback Joshua Dobbs, who entered the game on the Vol’s third series, went 19 of 32 for 192 yards with two touchdown passes and one pick. He also rushed for 75 yards on 19 carries. Tennessee gave up 469 yards of total offense. They will travel to Columbia this week to play Steve Spurrier’s struggling South Carolina team.

10-20-14: The Volunteer offense was dreadful Saturday as the Vols lost to Ole Miss 34-3. Quarterback Justin Worley was intercepted three times sacked seven times. The Volunteers finished with 189 total yards. Worley looked like liability out there. Maybe the Vols need to consider putting in backups Joshua Dobbs or Nathan Peterman because of their mobility. It only gets tougher this week as they play Alabama.

10-15-14: QB Justin Worley threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more scores Saturday as Tennessee ended a three-game losing streak with a 45-10 victory over FCS Chattanooga. Worley went 19 of 24 for 198 yards despite getting sacked five times. Tennessee held Chattanooga to 201 total yards, including just 40 in the first half. The Vols head to Oxford this weekend to play Ole Miss.

10-6-14: It was an ugly day to be Volunteer fan. Tennessee lost 10-9 to Florida in cruel fashion. Tennessee led 9-0 when Jalen Tabor started Florida's comeback by sacking Justin Worley. He knocked ball loose and recovered the fumble at Tennessee's 30. That turnover led a 2-yard touchdown run. The Vols would give up a field goal late. Worley was 26 of 39 for 205, but threw two interceptions, lost a fumble and was sacked six times. Tennessee hosts Chattanooga this week.

10-1-14: The Vols came oh so close to pulling the upset in Athens this past week. Tenneesee ended up falling 35-32, but might have won if senior quarterback Justin Worley had not been sidelined for three possessions in the second half. Worley did complete 23 of 35 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns. He led the Vols on a pair of touchdown drives after he re-entered the game in the fourth quarter. Tennessee was gashed for 289 yards on the ground. They will host Florida this week.

9-22-14: The Vols had a bye this week after their tough loss to Oklahoma. In order for the Vols to upset Georgia this week, they must get their offensive line to open up running room for Jalen Hurd and Marlin Lane. Georgia's defense is still top tier in the SEC. They also need to keep Todd Gurley and Sonny Michel in check. They will be heavy underdogs in the game, but Tennessee has the talent to upset Georgia in Athens.

9-15-14: The Vols have a good young nucleus of talent including QB Justin Worley, but the Oklahoma Sooners were just too much for Tennessee too handle Saturday as they lost 34-10. The Vols made it 13-7 in the second quarter, but the Sooner defense clamped down and thwarted the Volunteer attack all-night. Tennessee’s young offensive line couldn’t hang with the Sooners’ front seven. The Vols running game was shutdown and Worley threw for two interceptions. It doesn’t get much easier as Butch Jones’ team travel to Athens to take on a hungry Georgia team.

9-9-14: The Vols didn’t coast like many expected them to against Arkansas State, but they were comfortably ahead for long stretches of their 34-19 win in Knoxville this past weekend. QB Justin Worley continued his efficiency finishing the game 22-for-38 for 247 yards and three total touchdowns. The Tennessee defense limited Arkansas State's offense all game holding them to 4-for-17 on third down conversions. The Vols travel to Norman this weekend to take on a high-powered Oklahoma squad.

9-4-14: The Vols got 273 passing yards and three touchdowns from quarterback Justin Worley last Sunday in their 38-7 defeat of Utah State. In total, 11 different players caught passes from Worley and 21 true freshmen played in the game. However, it was the Volunteer defense that was impressive to me. They limited the explosive Chuckie Keeton to just 12 rushing yards and picked him off twice. Tennessee should continue to roll next week when they host the Arkansas State Wolves.
