Washington Huskies News

11-9-14: The Washington Huskies hosted the #18 ranked UCLA Bruins this week at home in Husky Stadium in a Pac-12 matchup for both schools. Washington defeated Colorado last week to improve their record to 6- 3 and 2-3 in the conference while UCLA beat Arizona last week in a battle of two ranked opponents. With the victory UCLA improved their record to 7-2 and 4-2 in the Pac-12 keeping their Pac-12 South hopes alive. UCLA came into this matchup seemingly with something to prove as they took out their frustrations on this Washington Huskies team. UCLA got on the scoreboard early and often in this contest as the Bruins took a huge 31-10 lead with them into halftime. UCLA and Washington traded touchdown for touchdown in the third quarter as the Bruins took some of their regulars out of the contest to rest. Washington made things close in the fourth quarter with a pair of scoring drives but the Huskies ultimately fell to the Bruins by the score of 44-30. With the loss Washington dropped their record on the season to 6-4 and 2-4 in the conference while UCLA improved to 8-2 and 5-2 in the Pac-12 with the victory. Get your Washington tickets for next week’s contest as the Huskies travel to Arizona to take on the Wildcats in Arizona Stadium. The game will be played at 3:30 pm ET and can be seen on television on FOX.

11-3-14: The Washington Huskies traveled to Colorado to take on the Colorado Rams this week on the road in Folsom Field in a Pac-12 matchup for both teams. Washington had lost two games in a row heading into the contest which dropped their overall record to 5-3 and 1-3 in the Pac-12 while Colorado had lost four games heading into this week dropping their own record to 2-6 and 0-5 in the conference this season. Washington looked to keep Colorado winless in the Pac-12 and if you looked at the box score it would look like the Rams dominated this game. Colorado State gained more yardage, got almost double the first downs, and had over 11 minutes more of possession time while Washington went a mere 2-11 on third downs and achieved just 14 first downs in the contest. Washington won this game by making the most of their special teams and defense as the team returned an interception for a touchdown late in the third quarter and returned a punt for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter as the defense forced five Colorado turnovers. With the defense and special teams touchdowns the Huskies took a 38-23 lead that they would not relinquish as Washington went on to win by that same score. Washington improved their record to 6-3 and 2-3 in the conference while Colorado dropped their record to 2-7 and 0-6 in the Pac-12 this season. Get your Washington tickets for next Saturday’s game when the Huskies host the #22 UCLA Bruins at home in Husky Stadium. The game will be played at 7:00 pm ET and can be seen on Fox Sports One.

10-27-14: The Washington Huskies hosted the #14 ranked Arizona State Sun Devils this week at home in Husky Stadium in a Pac-12 conference game for both teams. Washington came into the contest fresh off a loss at the hands of Oregon as the team’s record dropped to 5-2 and 1-2 in the Pac-12 while Arizona State came into the contest with a two game winning streak while improving their overall record to 5-1 and 3-1 in the conference this season. Neither team in this contest really managed to get the ball moving and any momentum going offensively as this contest was decided by fundamentals. Both teams had comparable first downs, third down efficiency, total yards, and penalties but the key difference ended up being the turnovers. Arizona State did have four turnovers but three of them were turnovers on downs while Washington also had four turnovers that ended up being more costly. The Huskies threw two interceptions and lost a fumble in the contest that led to Arizona State putting the ball in the end zone. Washington’s pick six late in the contest as the team was driving down the field led to the dagger for Arizona State as the Sun Devils went on to win the game by the score of 24-10. Washington’s record dropped to 5-3 and 1-3 in the Pac-12 while Arizona State improved their overall record to 6-1 and 4-1 in the conference with the victory. Get your Washington tickets for the next Huskies game as the team travels to Colorado to take on the Buffaloes next Saturday on the road in Folsom Field. The game start time and television schedule has yet to be determined.

10-20-14: The Washington Huskies traveled to Oregon to take on the #ranked Oregon Ducks this week on the road in Autzen Stadium in a Pac-12 matchup for both teams. Washington and Oregon had identical 5-1 record coming into the contest while the Huskies were 1-1 in the Pac-12 and Oregon was 2-1 in the conference this season. The reason Oregon is ranked and Washington is not is definitely due to strength of schedule as Washington has only played one ranked team this season and that was their only loss of the season when they hosted the Stanford Cardinal. Oregon on the other hand had beaten ranked teams in the UCLA Bruins and the Michigan State Spartans this season while getting upset by the Arizona Wildcats. Washington played Oregon tough in the first quarter but the Ducks took over on both sides of the football in the second quarter. Oregon put up 21 points in the second quarter as a part of 28 unanswered points by Oregon as they went on to easily beat the Huskies 45-20. Washington’s record dropped to 5-2 and 1-2 in the conference while Oregon’s march back to the top continues as the team improves to 6-1 and 3-1 in the Pac-12. Get your Washington tickets for the next Huskies game as the team travels home next Saturday to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils at home in Husky Stadium. The game will be played at 10:45 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN.

10-15-14: The Washington Huskies traveled to take on the California Golden Bears this week in a big Pac-12 matchup in Memorial Stadium. Washington and California had identical 4-1 records coming into the game while Washington sported a 0-1 conference record and California had a 2-2 record in the Pac-12 this season. This game had all the makings of being a close contest and a well contested game but Washington had other plans on this afternoon in California. Washington jumped all over California early and often in the first half and led the Golden Bears by the score of 28-0 when the two teams went into the locker rooms for half time. Washington coasted for the second half while the Golden Bears continued to struggle as Washington won a laugher by the score of 31-7. Washington improved their record to 5-1 and 1-1 in the Pac-12 while California’s record dropped to 4-1 and 2-3 in the conference this season. Be sure to get your Washington tickets for the next Huskies game next Saturday as the team travels to take on the #12 Oregon Ducks on the road in Autzen Stadium. The game will be played at 8:00 pm ET and can be seen on the Fox Sports 1.

10-6-14: The Washington Huskies took the week off to recover from their first loss of the season at the hands of the Stanford Cardinal. The Huskies will use the week to rest players and prepare for their game next Saturday when they travel to take on the California Golden Bears in Memorial Stadium. Washington dropped their record to 4-1 after the loss to Stanford last week, their only game and loss in the Pac 12, and will look to ruin California’s 3-1 record and 1-1 record in the Pac 12. California takes on Washington State this week on the road in another Pac 12 game so that record will look different next week when these two teams meet. Washington has been able to control the ball and the clock by rushing the football this season as the Huskies average 207.6 rushing yards per game, which is ranked 39th in the nation. Washington has not thrown the ball much this season and runs the risk of becoming too predictable and one-dimensional as the team only averages 162.6 yards per game in the air and ranks 112th in all of college football. Washington has the ability to simply outscore you or shut you down with the defense and lull you to sleep with the running game. It’s going to be a tough game for the Huskies and their secondary as California has one of the better passing games in all of college football this season. Be sure to grab some Washington tickets for the next Huskies game next Saturday as they take on the California Golden Bears on the road in Memorial Stadium. The game will be played at 6:00 pm ET and can be seen on Pac 12 Network.

10-1-14: The Washington Huskies hosted the #16 Stanford Cardinal this week at home in Husky Stadium. The Huskies were a perfect 4-0 heading into the game this week against their 2-1 Pac 12 rivals in Stanford. Stanford felt the sense of urgency in this game early and jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after one quarter of play. Washington answered back with two touchdowns of their own in the second quarter including a Shaq Thompson fumble recovery for a touchdown but a missed PAT attempt kept the score at 13-13 heading into halftime. Neither team was able to score in the third quarter as the defenses took over in the second half but heading into the fourth Stanford’s offense showed some signs of life. With just over 4:30 left in the game the Cardinal’s running back Kevin Hogan was able to run it in and break the plane giving Stanford the eventual game winning touchdown. Stanford would win another close one by the score of 20-13 and improved their record to 3-1 and also dropped Washington’s record to 4-1.Get your Washington tickets for the Huskies game in two weeks as the team takes a week off before traveling to play the California Golden Bears in Memorial Stadium.

9-22-14: The Washington Huskies hosted the Georgia State Panthers this week at home in Husky Stadium in Washington. The Huskies went into the game looking to protect their perfect 3-0 record while the Panthers looked to improve on their 1-2 record in this young college football season. Washington surprisingly looked overmatched in the first half of the game as the Panthers led 14-0 at halftime. The Georgia State quarterback Nick Arbuckle threw for two touchdowns in the second quarter including putting the ball in the end zone with 0:47 left in the first half. The Huskies must have received one heck of a halftime speech because the offense came out firing right away in the third quarter. Washington was able to put up three separate touchdowns in the third quarter and three touchdowns and a field goal in the fourth quarter while the defense shut out the Panthers in the second half to win by a commanding 45-14 score. Washington quarterback Cyler Miles threw three touchdowns on the day and running back Jeff Lindquist rushed for two of his own for the Huskies offense. The defense of the Huskies caused four turnovers including one fumble recovery and three big interceptions. One of those interceptions was returned 35 yards by John Timu for a Husky touchdown when the game was well in hand in the fourth quarter. Get your tickets for the next Washington game as the Huskies host the Stanford Cardinal in a Pac-12 Conference matchup in Husky Stadium.

9-16-14: The Washington Huskies started the 2014 college football season 2-0 and faced off with another 2-0 team in the Illinois Fighting Illini this week at home in Husky Stadium. One team was going to leave the field this afternoon with their first loss and that team was the Fighting Illini on this day as Washington absolutely dominated Illinois from whistle to whistle in this one. The final score was 44-19 in favor of the Huskies and the difference was definitely the running game in this one. Illinois was only able to muster up 78 rushing yards on 25 attempts while Washington controlled the ball and the clock with 235 rushing yards on a staggering 59 attempts. Washington simply put up points in this game as they outscored Illinois in three of the four quarters and had their first string starters out of the game early in the second half. Washington also helped Illinois score once in the second quarter as the Fighting Illini scored a safety in the end zone to account for two of the team’s 19 points. Get your tickets for next week’s Huskies game as they host the Georgia State Panthers at home. The game will be played at 6:00 pm ET and can be seen on the Pac 12 Network.

9-8-14: The Washington Huskies hosted the East Washington Eagles this week looking to build on their first game victory and start a winning streak. The Huskies edged the Eagles 59-52 this week to improve their record to 2-0 in exciting fashion. Entering the fourth quarter the Eagles were winning the game 45-44 but the Huskies were able to score two straight touchdowns in the fourth to give Washington a 59-45 lead they wouldn’t give back. The Eagles scored late in the fourth to make it a one possession game but the Huskies defense remained tough and the Huskies won the game. There was a ton of offense in this game where the Huskies put up 536 yards of total offense while the Eagles topped that with 573 yards of their own. This was a tale of two stories as East Washington threw for 475 yards while Washington rushed for 356 yards overcoming 10 penalties for 100 yards. East Washington lost two fumbles in the game and the Washington running game proved to be too much in the loss. Get your tickets for next week as the Washington Huskies will host the Illinois Fighting Illini at 4:00 pm ET on FOX.
