A Few Good Reasons to Buy Purity Ring Tickets on TicketIQ.com
Blending contemporary R&B beats and glacial synths with occult lyrical themes, Canadian duo Purity Ring became one of the pioneers of the sub-genre known as witch house. Vocalist Megan James and producer Corin Roddick first played together in indie-rock outfit Gobble Gobble (later renamed Born Gold) before deciding to pursue their love of electronica and R&B under the guise of Purity Ring in 2010. Following remixes of Disclosure’s “I Love… That You Know” and S.C.U.M.’s “Summon the Sound,” the pair signed to indie label 4AD and released their own first single, “Obedear,” in 2012. Peaking at No.32 in the US, parent album Shrines continued to justify their reinvention and was supported by a series of headlining dates and festival sets which also showcased James’ elaborate fashion style and Roddick’s custom-built tree-shaped light and sound control desk. The band’s profile soared further when the record was nominated for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize and rapper Danny Brown contributed to a new version of the track “Belispeak.” The group then returned the favor when they contributed to his third LP, Old, before exploring their hip-hop leanings once more with a cover version of Soulja Boy’s “Grammy.” Continuing their collaborative streak, Purity Ring then worked with British techno maestro Jon Hopkins on his Mercury Prize-nominated LP Immunity (“Breathe This Air”) and a remix of their very own “Amenamy,” and also joined the likes of Zedd and Empire of the Sun on Lady Gaga’s Applause Remix E.P. In 2014, Purity Ring served as producers on West Coast MC Ab-Soul’s “God’s Reign” and R&B hitmaker Elijah Blake’s “Give Me U” and released “Push Pull,” the first taster from their much-anticipated sophomore. Unlike its predecessor, in which James and Roddick recorded in separate studios, 2015 follow-up Another Eternity saw the pair work together in their Edmonton hometown and pursue a more mainstream pop-oriented sound. Reaching No.26 on the Billboard 200 and at pole position on the Dance/Electronic Albums chart, the album received rave reviews across the board and was supported by an extensive world tour which took in the UK, Germany and Sweden and over two dozen dates across USA and Canada.
