A Few Good Reasons to Buy Chris Cornell Tickets on TicketIQ.com
Chris Cornell served as frontman of grunge legends Soundgarden and supergroup Audioslave but also enjoyed success with an eclectic solo career which took in everything from James Bond themes to Timbaland-produced pop. Born in Seattle in 1964, Cornell first performed in covers band The Shemps before teaming up with guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Hiro Yamamoto and drummer Matt Cameron to form Soundgarden in 1984. After signing to Sub Pop, the group released their debut album, Ultramega OK, in 1988 and alongside Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains went onto spearhead the Seattle grunge movement that defined early 90s alt-rock. Having previously ventured outside the band with a sting in satirical Western Swing band Center For Disease Control Boys, Cornell then formed another side project, Temple of the Dog, in 1991 as a tribute to his late friend, Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood, produced Screaming Trees’ Uncle Anaesthesia and made a cameo in Cameron Crowe’s Singles. Buoyed by the eye-catching video for lead single, “Black Hole Sun,” Soundgarden’s 1994 fourth LP, Superunknown, then reached the top of the Billboard 200 and won two Grammy Awards. But Cornell’s decision to move away from their signature harder-edged sound on 1996 follow-up Down on the Upside caused tensions in the band and in 1997 they announced their split. Cornell launched his solo career two years later with Euphoria Morning, embarked on a seven-month North American tour and contributed to the soundtracks of Great Expectations and Mission Impossible II. Following Zach de la Rocha’s departure from Rage Against the Machine, the remaining members invited Cornell to front a new group called Audioslave in 2001, with their self-titled debut arriving a year later. Following a stint in rehab, Cornell recorded a further two albums with the band including 2005’s number one Out of Exile, before leaving to revive his solo career in 2006. In the same year, he recorded “You Know My Name,” the theme to Daniel Craig’s first James Bond film, Casino Royale, and a year later released his sophomore, Carry On, before hitting the road with Aerosmith and Linkin Park. In 2009, Cornell made an unexpected foray into pop with Scream, a Timbaland-produced affair which received a mixed critical response but gave him his first solo Top 10 album. Cornell then returned to more familiar territory when he reunited with Soundgarden for a 2010 tour which led to a brand new studio effort, 2012’s King Animal. But Cornell still continued to pursue his solo career, recording an acoustic live album, Songbook, in 2011, guesting on records by Slash, Santana and Gabin, and releasing his fifth LP, Higher Truth, in 2015.
