Folk rocker and former Juniper front man, Damien rice has returned from Hiatus to the delight of fans everywhere. A student in Ireland, Damien formed Juniper with a few college peers in the early nineties in the town of Celbridge. The group saw a bit of success releasing EP’s, performing at local bars, and appearing on the Irish talent show Go For It. Public attention led to the group signing a six-album deal with Polygram Records, however riffs between Juniper and the label riddled the group’s ultimate success. Strongly influenced by Polygram, Juniper released the singles “Weatherman” and “World Is Dead” in 1998. While the singles made the charts and were fairly well received, there were critics of the radio-friendly releases. When Rice pushed to release the crowd favorite “Eskimo” as the second single, the label refused and overruled the Artist. Damien, deterred by the hierarchy of the major record label, quit Juniper and moved to Tuscany. He took up farming, living a simpler life outside of music. Some years later Rice would move to England in hopes of rekindling his passion of music. He spent his time street performing in Europe, saving enough to record a demo. When he completed his EP, the folk singer sent the demo to notable producer and film composer David Arnold. Arnold enjoyed the project so much he gave Rice his own mobile studio to record his music. Escaping the pressure of a major label, Rice finally had the freedom to create organically. Working on his solo debut, Damien released the single “The Blowers Daughter” in 2001. The track was a smash in the UK reaching the Top 20 Singles Charts. Damien Rice tickets appeared with headliners such as McAlmont & Butler and folk star Kathryn Williams, it was clear his stock was rising. Garnering attention of industry members and the public, Damien Rice released O in 2002. The serene melodies and heartfelt storytelling won over folk fans in Europe, appearing at No.8 on the UK albums chart. O also did well in the states selling over 600,000 copies. It was Rice’s home country of Ireland where he saw his most success however, reaching the unprecedented diamond status. Smooth ballads like “Cannonball” and “Volcano” increased public demand for Damien Rice tickets. As Damien Rice tickets and albums flew off the shelves, the Irish folk singer prepped his follow up album “9”. Created while Rice was on tour, the effort received mixed reviews. Rice himself decided to fall back from his solo career and collaborated with others. It wasn’t until 2014 that Damien announced his third studio album My Favourite Faded Fantasy. NPR’s Robin Hilton raved about the new album proclaiming “The upcoming Damien Rice album is incredible..”. Rice’s latest release featured production from legendary producer Rick Rubin. My favorite Faded Fantasy debuted at No.7 on the US Billboard Album Charts and No.1 in Ireland. Damien Rice tickets are currently on sale as he gears up for his 2015 North American tour.
