A Few Good Reasons to Buy Interpol Tickets on

At the forefront of New York’s early 00s post-punk explosion, sharp-suited Interpol found fame with a darkly atmospheric sound heavily inspired by various seminal British guitar bands of the 80s. Formed by guitarist Daniel Kessler and drummer Greg Drudy at New York University in 1997, the band’s original line-up became complete shortly after when bassist Carlos Dengler and lead vocalist Paul Banks joined the fold. After gradually building up a following in their hometown with regular shows at venues like Brownie’s and The Mercury Lounge, and releasing their 2000 debut E.P., Fukd ID #3, Drudy left the group to focus on his Level Plane Records label and was replaced by Sam Fogarino. Following the release of 2001’s Precipitate E.P., the band landed a deal with Matador Records in 2002 and later that year became critical darlings with their debut album, Turn on the Bright Lights, an intense indie-rock affair which drew favorable comparisons with the likes of Joy Division, The Smiths and Echo and the Bunnymen. Supported by an extensive world tour, 2004’s Antics saw them rack up a number of UK Top 40 hits (“Slow Hands,” “Evil,” “C’mere”), while released through Capitol Records, 2007’s synth-led Our Love to Admire saw them break the US Top 10 for the first time. The group spent the next few years focusing on various side projects including Fogarino and Swervedriver frontman Adam Franklin’s duo The Setting Suns and Banks’ solo career under the guise of Julian Plenti. Interpol returned in 2010 with a self-titled effort which proved to be Dengler’s swansong, and a world tour which included several dates opening for U2 on their 360° trek. The band announced they were embarking on another hiatus in 2011 in which Fogarino formed another outfit, EmptyMansions, with Interpol touring member Brandon Curtis and The Jesus Lizard’s Duane Denison, and Smith released an eponymous record under his own name. In 2014, the group reconvened for El Pintor, a back-to-basics LP which saw Banks also take over bassist duties, and gave them their third consecutive US Top 10 entry, while a year later they headed back out onto the road for an accompanying tour across the globe.
