What’s it like being in one of the biggest rock bands on the planet? Just ask Kings of Leon, the globetrotting band of three Tennessee brothers and their cousin who have lived the rock and roll lifestyle ever since releasing their first album when their youngest member was just 16. Sons of a Pentecostal preacher who had to hide their love of rock music at an early age, the Followill clan (brothers Caleb, Jared, Nathan, and cousin Matthew) broke onto the scene in 2003 with the release of their debut LP Youth & Young Manhood. The band’s infectious blend of Southern rock and gritty garage blues became an instant sensation in the U.K., all while some members of the band were still learning mastery over their instruments. Yet while fans with Kings of Leon tickets were going wild over the band in the U.K., success in the U.S. still seemed far off. Several tours and albums later (including 2005’s Aha Shake Heartbreak and 2007’s Because of the Times), that success finally landed Stateside with the 2008 release of Only By the Night. And it landed with a bang. Entering the U.K. charts at number one and producing monster hits “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody,” the album would go on to be certified platinum as the band traded in its Southern rock-dominated style for a more arena-ready alternative sound. And then they went and hit those arenas, recording their first live CD in 2009 at London’s O2 Arena, where fans with Kings of Leon tickets were treated to a blazing 22-song set that helped solidify the band’s new rock star status. A few months later, Kings of Leon would add three Grammys to their resume for “Record of the Year,” “Best Rock Song,” and “Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocals” (the latter of which came as no surprise for anyone who has ever held Kings of Leon tickets.) Dating supermodels and selling out arenas worldwide, Kings of Leon were on top of the world. Until disaster struck. Following the October 2010 release of the band’s fifth album Come Around Sundown, the band released Kings of Leon tickets for a 50-city tour that would take them across North America and into Europe the next year. But the Kings’ upward trajectory took a major turn backwards in Dallas, when an apparently intoxicated lead singer Caleb Followill melted down on stage. After reportedly slurring his speech and walking off the stage, the band would be forced to cancel the show as well as the remainder of their U.S. tour. Loyal fans eagerly clutching onto their now-useless Kings of Leon tickets were crestfallen. Yet after a brief hiatus that saw the band removing themselves from the spotlight to focus on getting their personal lives back on track, the Kings announced their return to royalty in the fall of 2013 with the release of their new highly acclaimed album Mechanical Bull. But just as it seemed the stars were aligning for a triumphant comeback tour (with Kings of Leon tickets being snapped up worldwide), the band was hit with more band news. Their beloved grandfather and namesake of the band, Leon Followill, had passed away just before the tour was set to begin. Undeterred however, the band pressed on to continue the legacy of what their grandfather had started, kicking off the Mechanical Bull tour in Atlanta in February 2014 and giving fans with Kings of Leon tickets new hope. The tour will grace North American venues through April before the band makes their way across the pond for several major European festival gigs this summer, where fans with Kings of Leon tickets can expect to hear the band perform their new song “Comeback Story” — just as the band’s own comeback story continues to unfold.
