With her charming blend of sultry jazz, easy-listening blues and mellow acoustic pop, singer-songwriter Norah Jones became one of the most popular female artists of the 00s. Born Geethali Norah Jones Shankar in Brooklyn in 1979, the daughter of Indian sitar legend Ravi Shankar grew up with her mother in Texas before attending a performing arts school in Dallas. Inspired by the music of Bill Evans and Billie Holiday, she majored in jazz piano at the University of North Texas before she moved to New York City where she formed a band with Jesse Harris. After performing with the likes of Wax Poetic, Victoria Williams and Peter Malick, she signed to the Blue Note Records label, releasing her debut album, Come Away With Me, in 2002. A slow-burning word of mouth hit, it eventually reached number one in the UK and US, sold 26 million copies and produced a string of classic singles in the shape of “Don’t Know Why,” “Feelin’ The Same Way” and the title track. Norah Jones tickets for her first world tour were then snapped up after she won five Grammy Awards in 2003, including Best New Artist and Album of the Year, the same year she also co-founded country covers band The Little Willies, who went onto release a self-titled effort in 2006 and For The Good Times in 2012. In 2004, country-tinged sophomore Feels Like Home also topped the charts, while a year later she won another Grammy with her Ray Charles collaboration, “Here We Go Again.” Following the release of 2007’s entirely self-penned Not Too Late and Norah Jones tickets for a tour of the same name, she made her acting debut alongside Jude Law in My Blueberry Nights and recorded a tongue-in-cheek album with two of her Handsome Band musicians under the guise of El Madmo. After being named as Billboard’s Jazz Artist of the Decade, 2009’s The Fall was followed by …Featuring, a collection of duets with artists as diverse as Foo Fighters, Willie Nelson and Belle & Sebastian, whilst after contributing to Danger Mouse’s Spaghetti Western-themed Rome LP, the producer returned the favour by helming 2012’s Little Broken Hearts. Fans in several South American countries and India then got the chance to buy Norah Jones tickets for the first time when she announced an extensive 66-date world tour across 2012/13.
