Prince Tour News
4-18-14: Prince has signed a new record deal with Warner Brothers Records. His first deal with the company since 1996, WB plans on re-releasing his iconic album “Purple Rain” along with helping him develop new material, including the heavily anticipated “PLECTRUMELECTRUM” full length said to already be in the recording progress.
3-3-14: Prince continues to tease his British fans, by performing sets of small shows with as little as two hours notice. The new band, entitled 3rdEyeGirl command ticket prices upwards of £1,500 on the British re-sale market. According to sources, Prince has been asked to headline two “greatest hits” dates at Hyde Park in exchange for a minimum of £8 million.
Alongside Michael Jackson and Madonna, maverick superstar Prince defined the pop landscape of the 80s thanks to a series of ground-breaking albums that defied pigeonholing. Born Prince Rogers Nelson in Minneapolis in 1958, he wrote his first song aged seven and began touring across the city’s club circuit in the bands Grand Central and 94 East before signing a solo deal with Warner Bros. Producing, composing and performing all 27 instruments on its nine tracks, 1978 debut For You became typical of his near-maniacal work ethic, but whilst 1979’s self-titled follow-up produced a first Billboard hit, “I Wanna Be Your Lover,” it wasn’t until 1982’s 1999 that he truly broke through to the mainstream. Prince tickets then went on sale for a lengthy 87-date tour of the same name before he became one of the few artists in history to hold the number one single, album and film at the same time with 1984’s seminal Purple Rain. Spending an incredible 24 weeks at the top spot, its soundtrack eventually shifted 13m copies in the US alone, whilst also picking up an Oscar for its title track and spawning two tracks that reached pole position on the US Hot 100 (“When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy”). 1985’s Around The World In A Day continued his chart-topping reign, 1987’s double LP, Sign O The Times, became his most critically-acclaimed body of work, whilst Prince tickets for an extravagant world tour to promote 1988’s Lovesexy sold in their droves. Batman theme “Batdance” and Sinead O’Connor’s cover of “Nothing Compares 2 U” added to his number ones tally before he formed The New Power Generation, a replacement for previous backing band The Revolution, in the early 90s. 1991’s Diamonds and Pearls produced another No.1 single, “Cream,” but after becoming embroiled in a contractual dispute with his label, he changed his name to the unpronounceable squiggle featured on 1992’s Love Symbol Album, appeared in public with the word slave emblazoned across his cheek and independently released his only UK chart-topper, “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World.” After finally leaving Warner Bros, he became the first act to sell an album through the internet (1997’s Crystal Ball), an outlet he used time and again to release his hugely prolific output. But after being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, he returned to the mainstream with 2004’s Grammy-winning Musicology and his first No.1 album in 21 years, 2006’s 3121, whilst following his 2007 Super Bowl half-time show, Prince tickets sold-out immediately for a record-breaking 21-date residency at London’s 02 Arena, as they did for his 2010 two-year Welcome 2 tour.
