With sales of 150 million, eight consecutive chart-topping albums and a record-breaking 22 Grammy Awards to their name, stadium rock heroes U2 are undeniably one of the biggest bands of all time. Formed in Dublin in 1976, frontman Bono, guitarist The Edge, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen, Jr, kickstarted their career two years later when they won a local talent contest and subsequently attracted the attention of The Stranglers manager Paul McGuinness. After performing to fans outside of their hometown for the first time, the group signed a deal with Island Records in 1980 and released debut album Boy in the same year. 1981’s spiritually-themed October was followed by the politically-charged War, before those with U2 tickets for the band’s 1983 show at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre got to relive the experience when it became an MTV staple.

After releasing 1984’s The Unforgettable Fire, the demand for U2 tickets grew considerably when the band stole the show in front of two billion viewers at Live Aid. But it was 1987’s The Joshua Tree that catapulted the group into superstardom when it topped the Billboard 200 for nine weeks, spawned two number one singles and won two Grammys. Recorded during a stadium tour which saw the group perform to hundreds of thousands of fans with U2 tickets, documentary Rattle and Hum then hit cinemas in 1988.

After experimenting with alt-rock, electro and industrial music on 1991’s Achtung Baby, the band released U2 tickets for the Zoo TV tour, an elaborate multimedia spectacle which established their reputation as a must-see live act. Following 1993’s Zooropa and a 1995 LP recorded under the guise of Passengers, the band continued to poke fun at pop culture with the release of U2 tickets for PopMart, a 93-date tour in support of 1997’s Pop which famously featured a 40-foot mirrorball lemon. In 2000, they ‘re-applied for the job of best band in the world’ with return-to-form All That You Can’t Leave Behind, while fans snapped up U2 tickets for an accompanying Elevation tour.

Following 2004’s How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, the group were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and released a 3D concert movie filmed in front of fans with U2 tickets for their Vertigo tour. 2009’s No Line On The Horizon underperformed but the 360° tour did anything but, grossing $736 million in sales of U2 tickets to become the highest-grossing and highest-attended of all time. In 2014, the band gave away their 13th album, Songs of Innocence, for free via iTunes.
