The natural successor to Snoop Dogg’s stoner-rap throne, Wiz Khalifa has been hailed as one of the most promising hip-hop talents of his generation. Born Cameron Jibril Thomaz in Minot, North Dakota in 1987, he spent his childhood living in Germany, the UK and Japan due to his parents’ military service before finally settling in Pittsburgh. Taking his stage name from the Arabic word for successor, he began recording his own material aged just twelve and in his senior year at high school, he attracted the attention of Rostrum Records, who released his breakthrough mix-tape, Prince Of The City: Welcome To Pistolvania and 2006 full-length debut, Show & Prove. A year later, he signed to Warner Bros where he scored his first Billboard Hot Rap hit with the Alice Deejay-sampling “Say Yeah” and released Wiz Khalifa tickets for his gig alongside The Game, David Vanner and Play-n-Skillz at U92’s Summer Jam. However, frustrated by the delay with his sophomore, he soon parted ways with the company, going on to release 2009’s Deal Or No Deal through the label which discovered him instead. After opening for Wu Tang Clan’s U-God at the CMJ Music Marathon and performing at the SXSW Festival, he was announced as Rookie Of The Year by The Source magazine, appeared on Rick Ross’ single “Super High” and beat Nicki Minaj and J. Cole to the title of MTV’s Hottest Breakthrough MC. Following sets at the Soundset and Rock The Bells festivals, Wiz Khalifa tickets for a 50-city tour with Yelawolf entitled Waken Baken sold out immediately, while his Atlantic-issued third studio album, Rolling Papers, peaked at No.2 thanks to the success of “Black and Yellow,” the Pittsburgh Steelers anthem that topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2011. Awarded Best New Artist at the BET Awards, Khalifa then teamed up with British rapper Tinie Tempah on the UK hit single, “Till I’m Gone” and starred alongside Snoop Dogg in the direct-to-DVD stoner comedy, Mac & Devin Go To High School, as well as collaborating with the rap veteran for its soundtrack. In 2012, he released the Taylor Allderdice and Cabin Fever 2 mix-tapes before Wiz Khalifa tickets went on sale for a North American arena tour to promote his fourth studio effort, O.N.I.F.C.
