The Baylor Bears have two of their best seasons back to back in 2013 and 2014 season having arguably the best season for the program in 2013 being ranked as high as third in the nation and a school record of 11 wins winning their first ever Big 12 Championship. The Bears would lose in the Fiesta Bowl however, but followed it up with another one of their best seasons in 2014, again finishing with 11 wins but once again losing in Bowl game, the Cotton Bowl game to Michigan State. For the 2015 season, Baylor is ranked in the top 5 according to the AP polls.

Baylor Bears News

8/31/15: The Baylor Bears game week kicks off this Friday on the road against SMU as the Bears this season have high expectations and are expected to make a run in the College Football Playoffs.

12-1-14: Baylor still has a chance to make a statement in its regular season finale this week, against a highly ranked Kansas State team. They did themselves no favors with their performance Saturday. They barely beat Texas Tech 48-46. The Bears defense allowed 598 yards and six touchdowns to freshman quarterback Patrick Mahomes and 712 yards overall. Bryce Petty threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns before leaving with a concussion.

11-24-14: Baylor scored 21 points in the first quarter en route to a comfortable 49-28 win over visiting Oklahoma State. Bryce Petty threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another. Shock Linwood and Devin Chafin each ran for more than 100 yards and combined to score four rushing touchdowns. The Bears gained 579 yards total in the game, and have scored at least 45 points for the eighth time this season. They play Texas Tech this week.

11-10-14: Baylor not only beat a ranked team on the road for the first time since 1991 but did so in dominant fashion beating Oklahoma 48-14. After trailing 14-3 after one quarter, Baylor scored the next 45 points. This was their first victory ever in Norman. Bryce Petty threw for 387 yards and a touchdown on 32 of 42 passing. Corey Coleman hauled in 224 yards on 15 catches. Baylor's run game had five rushing scores total. The Bears have a bye this week and their Big 12 title hopes are still alive.

11-3-14: Baylor had no trouble crushing Kansas 60-14 at home. They gained 669 total yards of offense and forced three turnovers. Bryce Petty threw for 277 yards and three touchdowns. Devin Chafin ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Callahan made four field goals. The Bears play Oklahoma this week in huge Big 12 showdown.

10-27-14: Baylor is coming off its first loss of the season, a 14-point setback at West Virginia last week. Art Briles’ team still leads the nation in total offense averaging 579 yards per game. They are also second in country in scoring averaging 49 points per game. Those numbers are hollow given how many penalties Baylor commits. The Bears average 10.9 penalties per game for 104.6 yard, both worst in the FBS. They will host lowly Kansas this week. I wouldn’t be shocked if Baylor puts up 80+ points.

10-20-14: The Bears committed 18 penalties for 215 yards, which hampered their offense and prevented their defense from making big plays. As a result, Baylor lost to West Virginia 41-27. Quarterback Bryce Petty threw for just 223 yards and two touchdowns. He was 16 of 36 passes. Baylor only ran for 95 yards on 42 attempts. The Bears failed to capitalize on three Mountaineer turnovers. Art Briles’ team has a bye this week.

10-15-14: The Bears scored 24 points in the final 10:39 capped by Chris Callahan's 28-yard field goal as time expired to beat TCU 61-58. QB Bryce Petty threw for 510 yards and six touchdowns. He was picked off twice though. Baylor had 782 yards of total offense, with Shock Linwood rushing for 178 yards and Antwan Goodley, Corey Coleman and KD Cannon each netting more than 100 yards receiving. Baylor travels to Morgantown this weekend to play West Virginia.

10-6-14: Baylor had one of their worst offensive outputs in quite some time, but they can thank their defense and special teams play. The Bears were up only 7-0 at half against Texas, but they turned that lead into a 28-7 win. QB Bryce Petty threw for only 111 yards on just 7 of 22 passing. He did throw two TDs and running back Shock Linwood rushed for 148 yards and a TD. The Bears have a massive Big 12 matchup this week against as the host AP No. 9 TCU.

10-1-14: Art Briles’ team continues to roll as Baylor beat Iowa State 49-28 this weekend. The Bears led 35-7 at half and finished with 601 total yards. Quarterback Bryce Petty accounting for 383 total yards and three total touchdowns. Petty threw for 336 yards and a touchdown. Running back Shock Linwood ran for three touchdowns, while Corey Coleman had 12 catches for 154 yards. Baylor travels to Austin this weekend to take Texas.

9-22-14: Baylor had a bye this week to give their offense some time to cool off as they prepare for Big 12 play. They outscored their nonconference opponents 178-27. Even with QB Bryce Petty missing a game because of cracked vertebrae, the Bears haven't been slowed down. They play an Iowa State team that's coming off a win over rival Iowa. The Bears have lost their last two trips to Ames, falling 35-21 there in 2012. If Baylor wants to secure a conference title and a playoff spot, they will need to play well on the road.

9-15-14: The Baylor Bears are a much better team than Buffalo. Everybody suspected Baylor would blowout Buffalo and they did with a 63-21 victory. Baylor jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead and the game was over. Buffalo fought hard in the second half, but even with Baylor playing its second string, the Bulls were outscored 28-21 in the final two quarters. Baylor outgained Buffalo 669 yards to 394 yards. Baylor is idle this week.

9-9-14: If Baylor truly wants to have a shot at the national title, then they must schedule better non-conference opponents. With SMU in Week 1 and FCS Northwestern State this past weekend, the Bears haven’t had a challenge yet. They were without several key offensive players, but they still racked up 720 yards and reached 70 points for the fifth time in its last 14 games beating the Demons 70-6. Backup quarterback Seth Russell, who started for the injured Bryce Petty, threw five touchdown passes in the first half and finished with 438 yards total while rushing for a TD. They travel to western New York this coming weekend to take on Buffalo. Expect another blowout win there.

9-4-14: The Bears were their dominant self on offense last weekend in their 45-0 rout of SMU. However, it was the Baylor defense that impressed me. AP No. 10 Baylor held SMU to just 67 yards of total offense, including minus-24 on the ground thanks to nine sacks of the three SMU quarterbacks. Baylor also had three takeaways, keeping the Mustangs from ever sniffing the red zone. Quarterback Bryce Petty, who left the game at half with an apparent back injury, will be ready to go when Baylor plays host to Northwestern State.
