Ohio State News
6-3-15: Ohio State has released its basketball schedule for the 2015-16 NCAA season. The Buckeyes begin their season on November 15 against Mount St. Mary's and will wrap their regular season against Louisiana Tech at a to-be-determined date. Notable games include November 27 against Memphis (held in Miami) and December 19 against Kentucky (in Brooklyn).
10-20-14: Why is nobody talking about the Buckeyes? Yes, I know they haven’t played anyone substantial but quarterback J.T. Barrett continues to impress. Ohio State beat Rutgers 56-17. Barrett threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 107 yards and two scores. Since getting intercepted three times in a loss to Virginia Tech in September, Barrett has thrown 17 TD passes with just one interception. AP No. 13 Ohio State travels to Happy Valley this week to take on Penn State.
10-15-14: OSU had a bye this week, but quietly the Buckeyes are a contender for the elusive college football playoff this season. Since getting upset at home by Virginia Tech in September, OSU has averaged 56 points in their last three games. Quarterback J.T. Barrett has 14 touchdowns and just one interception since getting picked off three times against the Hokies. Sophomore Ezekiel Elliott leads a Buckeye attack that averages 247 rushing yards per game. OSU hosts Rutgers this weekend.
10-6-14: Ohio State scored 50 points for the third straight game, jumping out to a 31-10 lead against Maryland and then cruised to an easy 52-24 road win in their Big Ten opener. QB J.T. Barrett was 18 of 23 passes for 267 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 71 yards and a TD. Ezekiel Elliott added 139 rushing yards for Ohio State. The Buckeyes have now outscored its opponents 168-52 since losing at home to Virginia Tech. They have a bye this week.
10-1-14: The Buckeyes offense rolled past Cincinnati 50-28, racking up 710 total yards and tying an FBS record with 45 first downs. Ohio State trailed 7-0 after the opening possession but then scored the game's next 30 points. OSU finished the game on a 17-0 run, after the Bearcats got to within five points. Buckeye quarterback J.T. Barrett had 409 yards of total offense, completing 26 of 36 passes for 330 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 79 yards. Ohio State opens up conference play this week when they travel to Maryland.
9-22-14: The Buckeyes had a bye this past week after easy win against Kent State. They should be healthy as they host a good Cincinnati team in their final nonconference game of the season. Ohio State hasn't lost a game to a team from Ohio since falling to Cincy in 1910. The Bearcats are explosive on offense so the Buckeye defense will be tested no doubt. On offense, I can’t see Ohio State struggling.
9-15-14: The Buckeyes bounced back rather nicely from their loss to Virginia Tech last weekend as they crushed Kent State 66-0. J.T. Barrett matched a school record with six touchdown passes (five in the first half). The game was over very early with the Buckeyes up 14-0 after the opening 5:30 minutes, 21-0 after a quarter and 45-0 at the half. The win was the 39th in a row over an in-state opponent for the Buckeyes, who haven't lost since a 7-6 defeat to Oberlin College in 1921. They will look to increase that streak to 40 games this weekend as they host Cincinnati.
9-9-14: The Buckeyes 34-21 loss to Virgina Tech this past Saturday capped off an awful day for the Big Ten Conference. Ohio State saw its 64-game home winning streak against unranked nonconference opponents come to an end in their first-ever meeting with the Hokies. Urban Meyer lost his first home game as head coach at OSU, the Buckeyes national title dreams were crushed. Quarterback J.T. Barrett struggled mightily. Barrett threw for 219 yards but completed just nine of 29 passes with one touchdown and three interceptions. He was picked off twice in the fourth quarter when it counted the most. Ohio State plays in-state Kent State this Saturday in Columbus.
9-4-14: After spending much of the first half on major upset alert last Saturday, the Buckeyes recovered in the final 30 minutes to roll past Navy 34-17. Redshirt freshman quarterback J.T. Barrett, who was making his first career start in place of the injured Braxton Miller, threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns. His 80-yard TD bomb to Devin Smith late in the third quarter gave the Buckeyes the lead for good. One thing for sure is OSU will need to block better up front with Virginia Tech coming into Columbus this weekend.
