Oklahoma Sooners News

12-1-14: The Sooners had an extra week to prepare for Oklahoma State this week. Running back Samaje Perine should be fresh as he tries to follow up his record setting performance. Perine ran for 427 yards and five touchdowns in a win over Kansas, setting the FBS single game mark.Oklahoma could get back quarterback Trevor Knight, who missed the last two games with a neck injury.

11-24-14: The Sooners stuck to the ground game to dominate Kansas 44-7, turning to Samaje Perine as the true freshman running back broke the FBS single-game rushing record that had just been set a week earlier. Perine ran for 427 yards and five touchdowns on 34 carries, that put him past the 408 yards that Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon had last week. The Oklahoma defense held Kansas to just 103 yards total. They have a bye this week.

11-10-14; Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight was carted off the field after being sacked in the fourth quarter, during their 48-14 loss to Baylor Saturday. The Sooner defense was torched for 544 total yards. They allowed Baylor wide receiver Corey Coleman to accumulate 224 yards receiving. Overall, Oklahoma just got a good old fashion butt whipping from Baylor. It was the first time the Sooners have ever lost to Baylor at home. They will travel to Lubbock this week to take on an awful Texas Tech squad.

10-31-14: Oklahoma dominated Iowa State 59-14 on the road thanks to a great performance from quarterback Trevor Knight. The Sooner offense racked up 751 total yards, while rushing for 510. Knight threw for 230 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 146 yards and three scores. Three Oklahoma players had at least 100 rushing yards rushing. Alex Ross had 144 yards and Samaje Perine had 110 yards and one touchdown. The Sooners play Baylor this week.

10-27-14: The Sooners have dropped two out of three games since a 4-0 start. They fell by a point at home to Kansas State a week ago after kicker Michael Hunnicutt missed two field goals. Oklahoma has gotten 10 rushing touchdowns from freshman running back Samaje Perine. Quarterback Trevor Knight has managed only nine TD passes himself. Bob Stoops and his team travel to Iowa State this week.

10-20-14: Kicker Michael Hunnicutt missed two field goals Saturday and had a game-tying extra point blocked in a devastating 31-30 home loss to Kansas State. Quarterback Trevor Knight had his best game of the season. Knight was 26 of 32 for 318 yards and three touchdowns. He was intercepted once and had the pick returned for a TD. Oklahoma outgained K-State 533-385 but didn't force any turnovers on defense. The Sooners have a bye this week.

10-15-14: The Cowboys needed a kickoff return touchdown from Tyreek Hill and a late defensive stop to escape with a 27-20 win over an awful Kansas team. Hill's 99-yard return with 6:43 left in the game came right after the Jayhawks tied the game at 20. Oklahoma State managed only 275 yards of total offense. OK-State travels to Fort Worth to take on TCU this week.

10-6-14: Oklahoma couldn't pull out a second consecutive road win, losing 37-33 to TCU for the first time since last November. QB Trevor Knight threw for 309 yards and a touchdown, but he completed only 14 of 35 passes with two interceptions. Samaje Perine had 87 yards on 25 carries with three rushing TDs. The Sooners play Texas this week in the Red River Shootout.

10-1-14: The Sooners had a bye this week, but will play their second straight road game against TCU this week after running past West Virginia a week ago. Oklahoma may have running back Keith Ford back from a leg injury, but if not, Samaje Perine and Alex Ross are excellent options. If you recall, Perine ran for 242 yards and four touchdowns a week ago. The TCU defense has only allowed 21 points in three games this season.

9-22-14: The Sooners were in for a shootout against West Virginia this past weekend. The game was tied at 24 at halftime, but then freshman running back Samaje Perine scored three of his four rushing touchdowns to go with 242 rushing yards total on 34 carries for the 45-33 Oklahoma victory. Perine was unstoppable in the second half. Oklahoma ran for 301 yards on the ground, and finished with 510 yards overall. They also got a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown from Alex Ross. The Sooners have a bye this week.

9-15-14: The Sooners just keep on rolling as they crushed Tennessee 34-10 in Norman this past Saturday. The Sooner defense was dominant and quarterback Trevor Knight finished 20 of 33 for 308 yards and two total touchdowns in a game that was never really in doubt. Oklahoma picked off Vols QB Justin Worley twice, including a 100 yard return by Julian Wilson. Bob Stoops’ squad will travel to Morgantown next weekend to face a high-powered West Virginia team.

9-9-14: The Sooner offense just continues to roll as they racked up 580 yards of total offense in their 52-7 dismantling of in-state Tulsa this past weekend. Trevor Knight had 299 passing yards and two touchdowns. He also added a 31-yard run. Sterling Shepard caught eight balls for 177 yards and Oklahoma’s run game rushed for 261 yards. The Sooner defense forced four Tulsa turnovers. They haven’t had a true test yet, but Oklahoma looks like a serious national title contender. They play host the Tennessee Vols this weekend in Norman.

9-4-14: Of all the teams who played in Week 1, the Sooners looked the best top-to-bottom. Their offense was efficient, not flashy, while their defense shined in their 48-16 win over Louisiana Tech. Oklahoma got 253 passing yards from Trevor Knight, on just 19-of-34 passing and included both a touchdown and an interception. The run game gained 183 yards total and scored five touchdowns. The Sooners travel in-state this weekend where they’ll face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
