Pac 12 Tournament History

The Pac-12 hasn’t been one of the most dominating basketball conferences over the years, but the conference has produced some good teams in the past few seasons, making Pac-12 tournament tickets an intriguing purchase in March. The Pac-12, then the Pac-10, started a conference tournament in 1987 and continued until 1990. In those four seasons, Arizona Wildcats fans got the most out of their Pac-12 tournament tickets with the team winning the tournament three times in those four years.

From 1990 through 2001, it was impossible to purchase Pac-12 tournament tickets as the conference did not hold a postseason tournament. Instead, the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament was handed to the regular season champion of the conference. In 2002, Pac-12 tournament tickets were available for purchase once again as the conference reinstated the postseason tournament format. From 2002-2012 Pac-12 tournament tickets would lead fans to the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The 2007 tournament set the record for most pac-12 tournament tickets sold with over 84,000 in total attendance over the course of the tournament.

Pac-12 tournament tickets will now bring fans to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the host of the tournament since 2013. In the first year in Vegas, there were 63,750 Pac-12 tournament tickets sold, much less than the peak in 2007, but more than the final year at the Staples Center.

When the tournament was reinstated in 2002 Arizona won again, extending their steak, technically, to four tournament titles in a row. The Wildcats have been in the championship game three other times, bring their total appearances to seven, which is a conference record. No other school has gotten to the championship game more than five times. Washington and UCLA are both tied with five appearances and are both 3-2 in those games. Oregon and Colorado are the only two schools to be undefeated in the championship game. The difference is the Buffaloes have only reached the title game once, while the Ducks have won the Pac-12 tournament three times.

This season, Arizona is once again the favorite to win the conference tournament. At the high point of the season, three Pac-12 teams were ranked in the top 25, though four separate teams have been ranked over the course of the season. Arizona spent eight consecutive weeks as the No. 1 ranked team in the country, and now sit at No. 4. UCLA has sneaked back into the top 25 at No. 23 to be the only other Pac-12 team ranked at the end of February. Still, Arizona is the odds on favorite to be cutting down the nets in Vegas when the tournament comes to a close.

Pac-12 tournament tickets will likely see an increase in price as the start of the conference tournament approaches. Although it’s unlikely there’s a surprising result come the end of the games, fans having Pac-12 tournament tickets to see these games are going to see a good group of games.
