One of the first major label bands to utilise the power of YouTube, Chicago quartet OK Go became
just as famous for their quirky videos as their radio-friendly blend of new wave, power pop and alt-
rock. Bassist Tim Nordwind, guitarist Andy Duncan and drummer Dan Konopka first began
performing as Stanley’s Joyful Noise before changing their moniker to OK Go when vocalist Damian
Kulash joined the fold in 1998. After supporting the likes of Elliott Smith, The Promise Ring and Olivia
Tremor Control, the group released OK Go tickets for a national tour and were recruited as the
house band for weekly WBEZ radio program This American Life. Following two E.P.s named Brown
and Pink, the group signed to Capitol Records and dropped their self-titled debut album in 2002. The
demand for OK Go tickets grew considerably in 2005 when the band premiered the first of the low-
budget, highly-choreographed and single-shot promos that would become their trademark for the
single “A Million Ways.” Peaking at No.69 on the Billboard 200, its parent album, Oh No, also saw
sales of OK Go tickets rise, and led to an extensive national tour which included a free New Year’s
Eve performance at New York’s Times Square. After Duncan left to be replaced by Andy Ross, the
group picked up a Grammy Award for the “Here It Goes Again” video in which they danced on
motorized treadmills, and made OK Go tickets available for shows with the likes of Panic at the
Disco!, Death Cab For Cutie and Snow Patrol. Fans then snapped up OK Go tickets for two benefit
shows in support of musicians affected by Hurricane Katrina, and an E.P., You’re Not Alone, recorded
with New York funk band Bonerama in aid of the same cause. In 2010, the group scored their highest
US chart entry with third LP, Of The Blue Color of the Sky, and released OK Go tickets for its
accompanying national tour. Named after the number of shows they had sold OK Go tickets for the
year previously, live album 180/365 was issued through their own Paracadute Recordings label in
2011, and was followed in 2013 by rarities collection, Twelve Months of OK Go. 2014’s Hungry
Ghosts then spawned their second US Hot 100 hit in the shape of “I Won’t Let You Down,” and was
followed by the sale of OK Go tickets for a North American tour.
