A Few Good Reasons to Buy Scorpions Tickets on TicketIQ.com
Hailed as the Ambassadors of Rock, enduring German outfit Scorpions have been plying their signature blend of heavy metal and melodic ballads for an incredible 50 years. Formed by Rudolf Schenker in the mid-60s, the group experienced several personnel changes during their early days and 1972 debut album, Lonesome Crow, and 1974 follow-up, Fly To The Rainbow, struggled to find an audience outside their homeland. However, the group’s fortunes began to change when they forged a long-lasting partnership with producer Dieter Dierks on 1975’s In Trance and settled on the line-up of vocalist Klaus Meine, guitarists Schenker and Matthias Jabs, bassist Francis Buchholz and drummer Herman Rarebell in 1978. Despite its provocative cover, 1979’s Lovedrive gave the band their first US chart entry, and they continued to build a global audience with 1980’s Animal Magnetism and 1982’s Blackout. Their performance at a Memorial Day concert broadcast on MTV opened them up to the mainstream and as a result, 1984’s Love at First Sting spawned the band’s first genuine hit in the shape of “Rock You Like A Hurricane.” After an extensive world tour which was documented on live album World Wide Live, the group achieved their highest Billboard 200 entry with 1988’s Savage Amusement. But their biggest commercial success arrived in 1990 with Crazy World and its politically-conscious third single, “Wind of Change,” which peaked at a career high of No.4 on the US Hot 100. The band’s audience began to subside in the wake of the 90s alt-rock boom, though 1993’s Face The Heat and 1996’s Pure Instinct both still charted, and a series of more adventurous offerings attempted to prove they were more than just a hard rock act. 1999’s Eye II Eye saw them embrace the sounds of techno and pop, 2000’s Moment of Glory was a collaboration with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra while 2001’s Acoustic was a stripped-back collection of their greatest hits. Scorpions returned to more familiar territory in 2004 with Unbreakable, while 2007 concept album Humanity: Hour I and 2010’s Sting in the Tail added to their tally of hit LPs. A critically-acclaimed series of MTV Unplugged sessions then helped to further restore their reputation, as did 2015’s Return To Forever, an album of original material composed over the previous 35 years released to coincide with the group’s 50th anniversary.
